Position: Collections Representative
Location: Watertown Avenue Office
Department: Collections
Reports To: VP of Lending
Status: Full-Time
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Collections Representative to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to contact members who have overdue payments, negotiate payment plans, and ensure the timely collection of outstanding debts. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and negotiation skills, be customer-focused, and have a strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This may also include acting as a liaison for both the Credit Union’s legal counsel vendors as well as member service operations personnel internally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contact members with overdue payments through phone, email, or mail in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Review customer accounts to identify outstanding balances and delinquent accounts.
- Negotiate payment arrangements and settlements with members to facilitate debt recovery.
- Record and update customer information, payment plans, and collection efforts in the database.
- Maintain accurate records of all collection activities.
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations governing debt collection practices.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing customer inquiries and concerns promptly.
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve customer issues and disputes.
- Assist in the development of collection strategies and best practices.
- Meet and exceed collection targets and goals.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred).
- Proven experience as a Collections Representative or similar role favorable.
- Knowledge of debt collection laws and regulations.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Excellent member service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using collection software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
Working Conditions:
- The Collections Representative will primarily work in an office environment.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
- Must be comfortable making a high volume of collection calls.

MSR

The Member Solutions Representative role is an all-encompassing role which requires the associate to deliver sales solutions, service and transactions to all members of the credit union. The MSR will promote and maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards to work effectively with members, co-workers, management and vendors. Demonstrate the credit union's core values of service, teamwork, integrity, and responsibility. The MSR is expected to maintain operational excellence regarding financial transactions, general operations, account open and closing procedures and more. The MSR must maintain compliance with Federal and State regulations as well as adhere to the credit union's policies and procedures at all times. The MSR must meet or exceed the employee evaluation requirements.The MSR will also process regular teller transactions for members, maintain accounts, accept loan payments, safe deposit box payments, processing of negotiable instruments, verify currency, balance cash drawers and other duties of the credit union.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
The MSR must maintain, in good standing, operational excellence within the organization overall. The MSR is expected to complete member transactions accurately, maintain a balanced cash drawer, complete all compliance modules when assigned, and be knowledgeable in areas of policy and procedures of the credit union.
The MSR is expected to actively engage in conversations to uncover the needs of the credit union members and provide the members with additional products and services that can assist with the member's financial goals. The MSR is expected to refer business to the appropriate department or vendor when needed. The MSR II is expected to take in loan applications and conduct loan closings when needed.
Other MSR II Duties may include. but are not limited to maintaining the vault and ATM, which requires daily balancing and replenishment of cash as needed. Additionally, the MSR may serve as a back-up to process certain computer files including but not limited to ACH and Share Drafts, Item Processing, and/or debit card processing and more if needed.
MSR is has a leadership role within the organization to all MSRs at or below their current level. The MSR II may be required to train another MSR on an ongoing or individualized basis as needed and should be actively looking to assist in other areas of the credit union during free time.
Community Involvement:
MSR's at any level may participate in community-based civic organization, non-profit, or volunteer on behalf of the credit union. Volunteer opportunities are made available to the staff throughout the year.
